How to make smarter selections in Photoshop

When making a selection of a difficult subject, like hair, its best to select something OTHER than what you actually want. An sometimes you can get luckey and no matter how fragmented your object is, the background is reasonably similar and easy to pick out. In order to save a TIFF Image in CMYK, you always need to remember to embed the color profile. Preferrably for print theis will usually be SWOP coated, but in the below example I am simply using the default profile.
