8-bit vs 16-bit images @ 100% (Layer 90 RGB/64)

Many common file formats, sich as JPEG, GIF, PNG and others, do NOT support 16 bit images. As seen below, the 8-bit copy of a file can be saved to virtually any format, while converting the exact same document to 16 bit limits your choices drastically.
